I came across these photos from this past Winter {when we were living with my parents} and just had to share!
It was a sunny, albeit chilly, afternoon and cricket and I were in the mood for a craft. An outdoor one, to be exact, but one that wouldn’t require the freezing off of any vital body parts.
We decided on one we could create indoors with cardboard {which we cut into a shape by tracing around her choice of cookie cutter, and then I made a hole in the top}, peanut butter, bird seed and thread.
And wet wipes. Always wet wipes. Wet wipes are a mother’s best friend.
Spread the peanut butter all over the cardboard, on both sides, and in the process over much of exposed skin… …”cheese”…
Press the PB smeared shape into the bird seed….
Thread it, and you’re all done!
Find a good spot to hang it up…
And then wait…and watch…
Being sure to celebrate every possibly landing…even if it was simply a bird flying within 30 feet of it…”it was thinking about it, honey”…
And then smile really wide when a bird flies close enough to “sniff” it!
“See honey…he’s still thinking about it. I bet he’s salivating at the thought!”
We never actually saw any birds eating from our bird feeder {sniff sniff}, so I think next time we’ll stick a little twig through the middle so the birds have somewhere to perch.
After all, it was a very windy few days and I’m not sure how worth it peanut butter coated bird seed is if you have to eat it while spinning around in circles and whipping back and forth in the wind.
And I suppose the fact that Papa’s pretty {convenient, non-pendulating (is that even a word?), non-spinning} bird feeder was directly above ours.
Come to think of it…very definitely NOT a good spot to hang our cedar-point-thrill of a feeder.
Oh well. It was fun and we fully intend on doing it again {although maybe we’ll use nutella next time…clean-up would w-a-y yummier!}.
On second thoughts…I’m not sharing my nutella with the birds!
