To wrap up the estrogen fest that has been my blog during my daughter’s birthday week…I present you with this super-easy, slightly-nasally-offensive tutorial {aren’t I sweet?}.
Around the time my daughter turned 2, she started getting more eager to apply make-up alongside mommy in the mirror. And while the thought of primping with her at my side delights me…the thought of real make-up on her sweet, little face makes me want to cry. Not quite wail, but you know that whole “growing up too fast thing” that causes your momma-heart to ache a little?
Yeah, that.
Make-up + toddler = {messy} tragedy
So when my desperate search for pretend make-up kept coming up short {and boy did I hunt…ebay, online searches, in stores, etc.}, it was clear I was going to have to get creative.
Oh, happy day.
Creative projects just get my goat.
And float my boat.
Or something.
So without further ado…a few simple steps to creating your own {deliciously fabulous} pretend make-up:
You will need:
- A few different colors of nail polish {available at the dollar store}
- Empty, almost empty…or heinously tinted eye-shadow collections you should never wear anyway so have fun destroying them…make-up containers.
- A tooth pick
- A gas mask {not really}
Instructions:
- Grab your containers…the cuter, the better {I’ve actually purchased uber cute collections at the dollar store…like the ice-cream shaped lip-gloss kit shown above…with the sole intention of scraping the glittery goop out}
- Clean them well with hot water and dish soap. The greasier the contents…the better you will need to clean them. Use an old tooth brush to get into little crevices.
- Dry well.
- Find a well-ventilated spot…preferably outside with a lemonade.
- Select your nail polish colors and pour carefully into the openings.
- Be sure to fill them completely as when the nail polish dries, it compacts down to about a 1/3 of what you see now.
- If you want to get creative…swirl different colors together with a tooth pick.
- Leave containers open and allow to dry completely {for several days}, away from curious little fingers.
- To make nail polish bottles usable…pour out as much as possible {into containers}, and leave open to dry. Clean the brushes thoroughly with nail polish remover. Comb with a fine-tooth comb if necessary {to get little clumps out}.
- You can purchase little brush sets at the dollar store {or Walmart}.
- Present to your delighted daughter in her very own make-up box.
- Watch her beam!
My daughter {and her little lady friends} adore playing with her make-up. I love that there’s no mess…no stress…and no growing up any faster than necessary.
