Here are my notes from yesterday and today {Thursday & Friday}:
Day 17 – 18:
Lost track of my days a little…but the long and the short of it is…I’m more motivated and inspired about getting healthy than ever before! I’ve lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks {think of 5 pounds of butter if you need to get excited about this number…that’s what I do!}, simply by cutting out sweets/sugar, eating more raw fruits and veggies, watching my portions and upping my activity level {be it just hula hooping, running around with the kiddos, or trekking the compost out to the heap in the corner of our property}. And I feel GREAT! I’m not even tempted by sweets and I’m {happily} choosing fruits/veggies over {nutritionally empty} crackers to snack on during the day…which is huge for this carb-lover!
I had a tremendous mental break-through the other day. I have several goals wrapped up into my pursuit of health {physical longevity and fitness, setting an example for my kids, enjoying life to the fullest without health set-backs, feeling good in my clothes, etc}. I have been asking myself – before I put something into my mouth – whether it will help or hurt my pursuit of these goals. What a change I’m seeing! Junk just isn’t worth wrecking my progress for.
At the same time, I’m also blown away by the stark {and sickening}contrast in these statistics: In 2006, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) said some 873 million people were undernourished — or one in every seven people worldwide. At the same time, more than 1 billion people were very overweight — a result of sugar-laden, high-fat diets, increasingly inactive lifestyles and relentless corporate advertising.
I refuse to play into this imbalanced statistic.
I’m also thrilled to report that my sweet man has jumped on the bandwagon – which makes a tremendous difference – and has lost 8 pounds in a few short weeks of changing his eating/activity habits. We’re holding each other accountable and are enjoying this journey together…which makes it fun! We stopped by Trader Joe’s on our way home from Ohio and splurged on some fabulous, healthy, organic snacks and foods. *Yummy*
We are SO ready for change! {Yeeehaw!}
