I’ve always loved fireworks {especially when my family flew over them on our way home to South Africa one year}, but the actual significance of July fourth never really hit home to me. Until now.
You see, this will be my very first Independence Day as a US citizen.
Thank you. Thank you very much.
And I must say, it’s amazing how studying the history of a country can change one’s perspective. And increase appreciation for exploding balls of colorful fire in the sky.
I now marvel at the bravery embossed on this nation’s rich history; the authenticity and tenacity of it’s leaders, the passion with which they engaged in battle – and all for the purpose of freedom and equality.
Oh, how we take these ‘things’ for granted! If only we truly knew the price that was paid for the life we so cavalierly live today.
How ridiculously blessed this nation is – economic crisis or not.
America truly is a stunning, personal-growth-inspiring, opportunity-rich, freedom-celebrating gem on the face of this earth.
And I am as proud as a peacock to call this beautiful land “home” {despite my constant references to South Africa and Namibia as “back home”. Forgive me, I have Multiple Nationality Disorder. And Africa runs hot in my blood, I cannot help myself}.
In honor of this glorious occasion – commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence and the separation of the United States’ from Great Britain on July 4th of 1776 {forgive me…my hours of studying are coming into play}, I present you with this pretty peacock paper {say that three times fast}…
