On Saturday, THIS happened…
…and it was as loud and fun and colorful and wild and crazy as it looks.
I may or may not have danced like a moron in the streets of Lansing to “Call Me Maybe” and “Thrift Shop” while wearing rainbow leopard-print shorts and pink kneesocks. The chalk powder has blurred my memory. And stained my scalp purple.
Onto this week’s free printable…
Before my family moved to the United States back in 1993, I knew nothing about the Mitten State.
I pronounced it with the choppy “ch”, had never heard of Euchre, or a Zamboni for that matter, didn’t think it was possible to experience all four seasons in one day, and never dreamed I’d marry a boy from “the thumb”.
I have since fallen in love with Michigan. And a whole bunch of Michiganders.
And a handful of Yoopers.
While my heart still aches for the Southern Cape of Africa, and all the beautiful people she holds, this stunning State has wooed me, wined me and dined me, and has ultimately captured my heart.
It may have a little something to do with that cute boy from the thumb and the two little human beings we’ve created here, along with all the wildly fantastic people we have in our lives, but I’m quite sure the trees in Autumn and the lakes in summer have cast a spell on me.
We plan to spend two weeks exploring the Upper Peninsula next summer, getting better acquainted with our home state, simply soaking in the beauty of the shoreline, the waterfalls, the mountains, and the wildlife. And we.cannot.wait.
Yeah, folks, we LOVE our mitten life.
Except maybe in January when I haven’t seen the sun for 23 days. Then, maybe, not so much. But I try not to complain about humidity and mosquitoes and roadkill. And Seasonal Affective Disorder. Ahem.
{Because, it should be noted that Colorado and California flirt with me from a distance, but I try not to entertain those thoughts for too long. Repeat after me, “comparison kills contentment…comparison kills contentment…”}.
So, dare I say, we’re here to stay!

Let’s hear it for the beautiful seasons of Michigan…Winter, Still Winter, Almost Winter, and Construction.
Eh?
