While snowmageddon appears to have passed, we’re still freezing our little heinies off up here in the Midwest. Our remedy in the McMuffin household is to throw some more logs onto the fire, huddle a little closer, and pour ourselves another cup of tea.
It’s called survival. It also happens to be called liquid awesome.
If you know me well at all – or have spent more than 3.5 minutes in my home – you are well aware of our love affaire with tea, and our delight in sharing it with loved ones.
If you’ve ever lingered in my entranceway and not been offered a cup of tea…forgive me. It must have been an off day. Or maybe you were across the street in someone else’s home?
We drink tea when we’re happy, when we’re sad, when it’s hot outside, and when it’s cold. It’s the ultimate cup of comfort for a heavy heart, and the perfect brew to gather around when connecting with friends. We sip it when we’re just waking up {followed by a coffee chaser}, and just before we pack it in for the night.
Tea, my friends, is our drug of choice.
It always has been. Tea, and tea time, has been a part of my life for as long as I can recall. My parents literally gave us girls tea in baby bottles when we were just wee ones, simply so that we could be a part of the sacred family tea time routine.
Despite his lack of South African blood, my hubby has developed an undeniable affinity for the stuff. And our loin-fruit have followed suit. In fact, if I’m making a cup of tea in the evening and am not in the mood to explain why they shouldn’t have some right before bed, I brew it in stealth mode. Their addictive personalities keen instincts request a cup at the mere sound of the kettle switching off or the clink of a spoon against a mug.
They’re a lot like their mum, it would seem.
You see…tea makes me happy, not so much because of how it tastes {although it does taste ridiculously delicious…especially British blend or earl grey, with milk and just a spot of honey, if you like it sweetened}, but because of all it represents in my life.
Warmth. Comfort. Family. Friends. Gathering. Belonging.
It is home in a cup.
I’m assuming – if you’ve made it this far through a blog post entirely about tea – that you share my sentiments even if not quite so vividly. So come, let us have some tea and continue to talk about happy things…
