Without fail, when MercyMe’s song “You Are I Am” comes on the radio, I blow out my children’s eardrums.
It’s not that their little cochlear bits aren’t important to me, or that I secretly pray they’ll marry wealthy otolaryngologists who can undo the damage I’ve done while hurtling down the freeway…it’s just that I can’t help myself.
This song speaks to me.
It reads my mail.
Then promptly reminds me who holds the pen of my life…
I’ve been the one to shake with fear
And wonder if You’re even here
I’ve been the one to doubt Your love
I’ve told myself You’re not enoughI’ve been the one to try and say
I’ll overcome by my own strength
I’ve been the one to fall apart
And to start to question who You areI’ve been the one held down in chains
Beneath the weight of all my shame
I’ve been the one to believe
That where I am You cannot reach
8 X 10 {centered} print, right here
You’re the one who conquers giants
You’re the one who calls out kings
You shut the mouths of lions
You tell the dead to breathe
You’re the one who walks through fire
You take the orphan’s hand
You are the one Messiah
You are I am

Simply remembering who He is for us – and in us – forces us to shift our focus.
It demands that we stop telling God how big and bad our problems are and start telling our problems how big and good our God is.
It’s a game changer.
And now…it’s a printable pep talk in pretty summer hues.
Can I get an “amen!”?
