Yelp! How is it September already…and how did my babies suddenly turn into these fully grown miniature human beings with larger than life personalities with massive feet?
This summer…if it can even be called that (for I can barely count the number of hot days on one hand) flew by like greased lightening. The leaves are citrus-kissed and the days are getting shorter.
And now it’s that time again.
Please notice how organized I was last year…I set up everything the night before, designed and printed signs, they stood cutely on our doorstep in their well thought-out outfits, and I snapped away happily (evidence here).
I designed and posted lunchbox love notes, made gifts for their new teachers, and was…well, a pretty Pinterific maternal creature if I do say so myself.
This year, however, I took the summer off. Off from blogging and writing. Off from stress and frantic plate-spinning. I threw caution to the wind and tried my darndest to live in the moment and not work so stinking hard to keep up with everything I thought I ‘should’ be doing.
I also ate chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate. But that’s another problem story.
And let me tell you…we had FUN! It felt so good to just be. Not try. Not perform. Not worry. Just be present in the beauty of the moment in front of me.
The word ‘accomplish’ took on a completely different meaning this time around.
So in the name of consistency, our 2014 school year prep looked a little more like this:
…Pop those leftover blueberry waffles in the toaster…voila! breakfast.
…Grab those clothes out of the laundry basket that have yet to find their home in the closet…you’re dressed! Only because, much to my son’s chagrin, nakedness is not socially acceptable in public.
…Run to find the camera in the studio and here, smile, and hold this blank dry-erase board so mommy can photoshop something in later. Sorry you can’t stand by the front door like usual…we have a bee problem. Just stand in the driveway. Smile! (jazz hands)
Buckle up and let’s go to school! Yippeee.
And you know what…it felt pretty darn good.
